More thought goes into the running back position in football than any other position in the draft. In fact, it's not uncommon to see third-string running backs selected, based either on past performance, a shaky depth chart, or buzz surrounding the player. You wouldn't draft a third-string quarterback, would you? How about a third-string wide receiver (equivalent to a team's number five wideout)?
Because running backs are always the hottest commodities in fantasy drafts, it's wise to grab as many safe options early as possible. If you have a roster spot or two open near the end of the draft, gamble on a few of the deeper names in these rankings. The next Jamaal Charles or Shonn Greene may be among them.
