Is Chad Henne still Miami's QB of future?

The Miami Dolphins' ungulating season dipped yet again Sunday and, with the painful home loss to the Cleveland Browns, so did Chad Henne's future as their franchise quarterback.

Henne threw three interceptions and posted the worst passer rating of his career in a must-win situation. Frustrations over his erratic performances simply won't go away as the 2008 second-round draft choice completes his third NFL season.

In a division that has two franchises -- the New England Patriots and New York Jets -- that don't appear to be waning any time soon, can the Dolphins afford to go into 2011 with Henne as their quarterback?

South Florida Sun-Sentinel columnist Dave Hyde declared the Chad Henne era over and advised the Dolphins and their fans to move on to whomever the next guy is.

Palm Beach Post columnist Dave Stoda wondered how long the Dolphins can proceed "if Henne still presents as great a danger to his team as he does to an opponent."

Miami Herald columnist Greg Cote wrote "This was an eminently winnable game thatsputtering Miami needed Henne to rise up and win. The task proved too big."

Henne ranks 25th in passer rating. He has 12 touchdown passes and 15 interceptions. Only three quarterbacks have thrown more interceptions.

Henne had a great game in Week 12 against the Oakland Raiders, but let's not forget the coaching staff benched him for Chad Pennington for Week 10. If not for Pennington's season-ending shoulder injury, Henne still would be watching in a ballcap when the Dolphins' offense was on the field.

My take is that the Dolphins would be able to justify sticking with Henne if their organization believed it was in a building mode. But they aren't, not with the offseason moves they made, trading for Brandon Marshall and signing him to the richest extension for a wide receiver and making free agent Karlos Dansby the highest-paid inside linebacker in NFL history.

The Dolphins obviously want to win now, and a 1-5 home record with an erratic quarterback doesn't cut it.
